Software Developer — Mass Spectrometry

PA or remote
The Software Developer will be responsible for major contributions to the Product Development team that will take this game-changing technology platform from prototype to product and ultimately commercialization.

  • Take a long-term strategic approach to design and development considering the product roadmap; develop product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility.

  • Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards; clearly communicate all concepts and guidelines to development team and external software vendors.

  • Develop and implement a software development life-cycle: including requirements, specification, coding, testing, deployment, and performance tuning Help to build the software team and allocate work to other engineers and/or outside design firms.

  • Coordinate with the product development engineering team and stakeholders to create innovative and effective solutions.

  • Develop software functional and non-functional requirements in concert with the product development team based on customer input that enable customers to easily control the instrument and analyze their data.

  • Support development/troubleshooting of prototype instruments.

  • Learn our technology and how to operate our instruments.

  • Working within an interdisciplinary team of engineering, applications development, and operational employees to achieve strategic, operational, and technical objectives in a manner that ensures the product performance meet customer needs.

  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards and practices. Follow product development process consistent with regulatory and industry standards.

  • Communicate effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, Scientists, and other business personnel.

  • Write the use cases, user stories, and software requirements, and allocate them to the functional components as appropriate.

  • Ensure software meets all requirements of adherence to architectural standards, quality, security, modifiability, and extensibility.

  • Approve final product before launch.

  • Master's/Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (in lieu of degree, 6 years of relevant work experience).

  • 3+ years’ experience in software development, design and support for a variety of software applications that interface with laboratory instrumentation. Mass spectrometry integration a plus.

  • Self-starter, with a hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves mentality, and the ability to define and execute project objectives and priorities on time and on budget.

  • Someone who considers themselves a “Maker”, hobbyist, or tinkerer is a plus.

  • Occasional travel as needed.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the technical team when needed.

  • Expertise in Agile methods, software development lifecycle management, continuous integration, and build and release management.

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills; ability to decompose complex problems, prioritize issues, and implement sensible solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to speak and write clearly and accurately, particularly as it relates to technical concepts.

  • Passionate about quality, performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Experience with visual studio, C#, QT, C++, Python, Node, real time software, and microcontrollers a plus.

  • Experience with Front end design and GUI design, TypeScript, Javascript and the Angular framework is a plus.

  • Experience with Cloud solutions including but not limited to GitHub, and AWS a plus.

  • Ability to work in the United States.
